System Monitoring: When it comes to monitoring your systems, every single piece is critical to keeping your organization and your data secure and running smoothly. That’s where Octeum’s monitoring service comes in. Two large, global organizations recently tasked us with multiple layers of system oversight, including server health, integrated systems, database stability, application uptime, service operation, and a way to audit system component configuration for compliance with information security policies and business procedures. A big ask? Sure. But that’s when Octeum’s engineers shine.

Why Octeum
Experience & Proficiency
Many systems offer default second-party monitoring options with a blanket approach for all companies using their software. But Octeum digs deeper, providing an independent review of your specific needs and the flexibility to research, test and evaluate multiple options—from cloud to SaaS and on-premise solutions.
The Solution
Octeum chose an open-source monitoring system that’s flexible and configurable. With a growing community-sourced bank of monitoring templates, containerization options, existing VM images, bare metal server installs and multiple install options—like cloud offerings with multiple cloud hosts, including Azure, AWS and Google—the platform allows us to change environments based on our clients’ business direction and IT policies. Beyond our immediate projects, it’s scalable and able to handle any future projects, as well, allowing the Octeum team to add the platform to our areas of in-depth knowledge and expertise.
After a successful pilot, we deployed the new monitoring tool to our clients’ servers, with IT support, and began to create processes for monitoring the system. Simultaneously, we reviewed growth strategies for what would be monitored and audited, and planned for future server growth and environment expansion, ensuring the new monitoring system would grow with our clients’ significant needs.
Results / Benefits
Octeum’s system monitoring services reduced both clients’ downtime by nearly 60% after the first year. Full-system visibility means all issues with field hardware are consolidated into one spot, with access as needed. Auditing and identifying non-compliant issues takes moments, with just a few reports, instead of the hours our clients previously spent conducting multiple device and item checks. And access is now focused to only the items each user needs to see.
The new monitoring system helps our clients identify problems before they’re an issue, makes server issues like low storage more visible, and allows for easy compliance audits, system performance review and custom application health monitoring. All before they reach a critical stage.
