It’s a new year, and with it comes the perfect time to take a hard look at your organization’s physical access control system.

Did it perform the way you wanted it to in 2022? Or were you feeling some growing pains? And even more important, is it prepared for 2023?

Those are some big questions, but taking the time to answer them now is the first step toward keeping your data, systems, people and facilities safe not just this year, but far down the road.

Before you make those New Year’s physical security resolutions, our checklist will help you plan just how much attention your system needs this year. And when you’re ready to build or upgrade your solution, we’re here to help.

Is your data up to date?

Between last year’s Great Resignation, this year’s quiet quitters and role shifts within your organization, your lists have no doubt seen a lot of change. Now’s the time to make sure your employee data meets compliance regulations—including purging information and access for people who have left your company.

Are your systems talking to each other the way you need them to?

If your organization is using multiple data or security platforms, does information automatically flow between them? If not, every manual touchpoint adds work and introduces potential for error or oversight. The good news is, the possibilities for automatically syncing your data are relatively endless—from working with your existing platforms to creating a brand-new solution that meets your needs and everything in between.

Have you identified potential threats to your system?

This is a long list, which is just one more reason why it’s so important. Human error, natural disaster, a power outage or data breach, employee turnover and even overgrowth outside your physical properties can pose a threat to your security solution. And those are just a few examples of universal things to look for. Internally, your organization faces threats specific to your team, location, system and so much more.

Are your emergency response systems up to par?

Can your system remotely or automatically lock down your information? What about your facilities? It’s great if your platforms are running smoothly on an average day. But a truly great system will run just as well in a crisis, protect your information, and keep your organization up and running. This includes things like routinely checking alarms, ensuring backup power is in place, creating access strategies and preparing plans for different emergency scenarios.

Do you have the right physical access control system in place?

Or is 2023 the year you upgrade? If you’re regularly encountering kinks in your system, outages, manual entry backlogs, or frustrations with access or information, it’s definitely time to take a closer look. And if you’re unsure where you stand, we can help with that, too.
