The Challenge

Although each platform worked well independently, they operated in isolation. Student information had to be manually entered and updated within the access control system, slowing administrative processes and creating opportunities for human error.

Student information—including enrollment changes, grade level updates, attendance status, and disciplinary actions—is automatically synchronized between both systems without manual intervention.
By treating PowerSchool as the authoritative source of student information, the district now maintains consistent data across its security environment while significantly reducing administrative effort.
The integration also provides a flexible foundation for connecting additional systems as operational needs evolve.
To extend the capabilities of both platforms, Octeum developed two custom applications tailored to the district’s requirements.
Badge Activity Monitor
A custom monitoring service continuously captures badge swipe activity within Feenics and securely returns those events to PowerSchool.
This automation allows the district to identify whether students are on time, late, or absent without requiring staff to manually enter attendance records, improving both efficiency and reporting accuracy.
Suspended Student Badge Alert
When a student is placed on suspension, Octeum automatically replaces the student’s badge image within Feenics with a clearly identifiable “Suspended” indicator.
If that badge is presented at a secured entrance, security personnel immediately receive a visual alert during the credential verification process.
Once the suspension period ends, the student’s original badge image is automatically restored without requiring administrator intervention.
